Breast Enlargement Through Fat Transfer: Am I A Good Candidate?

Breast Enlargement Through Fat Transfer

Good Candidates for Breast Augmentation Using Fat TransferFirst, and foremost, patients who desire breast enlargement/enhancement through fat grafting must have sufficient fat to harvest. Many patients, with small breasts, are thin and do not have enough fat on their body to provide a good breast enlargement result. These patients often “think” they have plenty of fat to harvest but, often, they are just seeing “flabby skin” and thinking it is fat.

Part of the consult, with Dr. O’Neil, will allow him to determine if you have sufficient fat for the results you desire. Generally speaking, fat graft breast enlargement is for patients who desire a modest (1 cup size) breast enlargement. If the patient wants a 2-3 cup size improvement an artificial implant will probably have to be used.

Another issue is the patient’s tissue. A breast can only hold so much fat, depending on how much ‘stretch’ the skin has. If too much fat is put into a breast and the skin is too tight, the blood supply will be compromised and much of the fat may die.

Good Candidates for Breast Augmentation Using Fat Transfer

-Patients who have been pregnant, breast fed, and then lost the volume of their breasts may be excellent candidates as their breast tissue has become expanded by the pregnancy.

-Similarly, women who have had their breast implants removed may be good candidates for fat transfer breast expansion. Their breasts are already expanded by the previous implant and should accept the fat without problems.

-Women who have experienced multiple capsular contractures with implants are good candidates for fat grafting breast enlargement.  Most do not want another implant.

-Women with large hips and small breasts are good candidates for fat transfer breast enlargement. Large hips means good fat for harvesting and a better result.

-Women with asymmetrical breasts or ‘depressions’ in the breasts are candidates for fat grafting techniques. Their breasts may be made more shapely and enlarged.
